Project Last Mile’s behavioral nudge research on COVID-19 vaccines published in Journal of Health Communications
In early 2022, as the vaccination rate in South Africa
The southernmost country in Africa, South Africa is home to over 54 million people.
The country has one of the world’s highest HIV positive populations with an estimated 7,4 million people living with HIV. The South African government manages the highest HIV donor-supported program in the world with 3,8 million people on antiretroviral treatments.
Project Last Mile is supporting the National Department of Health through an invitation from USAID to help create an effective dispensing and distribution model to improve availability of life-saving chronic medicines for millions of patients across South Africa.
We are following a similar process that the private sector uses to design and operationalize a franchise model to create chronic medicine Pick-up Points.
In early 2022, as the vaccination rate in South Africa
Project Last Mile is working with South Africa’s National Department of Health (NDoH) to test influencer-led approaches, which have proven to reach and motivate targeted segments with low vaccine uptake.
MINA. For Men. For Health applies private sector consumer marketing approaches to strengthen behavior change communications for men living with HIV in South Africa.
Behavioral nudges can help improve vaccine uptake, but there have been limited studies on this in low- and middle-income countries, especially in Africa. To support the ongoing efforts of the National Department of Health and partners in accelerating the uptake of COVID-19 vaccines, Project Last Mile collaborated with Ipsos to undertake the first nationally representative study in South Africa. The study aimed to understand and explore the feasibility of incentive programs and behavioral nudges to improve COVID-19 vaccination rates.
